The Planning and Support Program and Ambient Monitoring Program of the Air Protection Branch of the Environmental Protection Division write detailed reports for every exceedance of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). An exceedance of the Particulate Matter 2.5 NAAQS occurs when the measured 24-hour PM2.5 concentration is equal to or greater than 35.5 µg/m3 at any monitor in Georgia. Initial particulate matter exceedance reports are completed within 2 business days after the exceedance and include discussions on meteorology, emissions, and air quality. A final particulate matter exceedance report covering all particulate matter exceedances in Georgia for the calendar year are completed after the data is certified by the Ambient Monitoring Program. Initial ozone exceedance reports are completed within 2 business days after the exceedance and include discussions on meteorology, emissions, and air quality. A final ozone exceedance report covering all ozone exceedance in Atlanta during the most recent ozone season is completed after the ozone season ends.
